UPDATE: It’s Chanuka, but 10 kids are still sleeping on their grandparents' freezing Israeli stone floor. They urgently need help to rent an apartment and purchase basics for their family while they rebuild their lives. Please give generously to shine some light in a very dark time for the Fishman family.
Hi, I'm Gamliel. I live in Yerushalayim. This past Friday night, I heard an explosion. I ran outside. The Fishmans - the nice family who moved into our building a few months ago - were standing in the street with their children, watching flames pour out of their windows.
Their dryer had exploded right after the mother lit Shabbos candles. The men were in shul. By the time anyone could do anything, the fire had torn through the apartment. Everyone got out. But everything they own is gone.
I went inside after Shabbos and recorded it. The walls are black. The furniture is destroyed. You can't breathe in there. It's not a home anymore. They moved here for a fresh start. Now their kids are sleeping on the floor at their grandparents' place.
I don't know what else to do except ask for help. If you can give something - for temporary housing, for replacing basic appliances and furniture, for anything - this family needs it.
You should be gebentched, Gamliel
